International youth football tournament New Years’ Indoor Tournament in Leipzig

Interesting Facts

zoom

Leipzig has been a KOMM MIT tournament city for more than 15 years now. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup celebrated in Germany the Leipzig arena was one of the World Cup stadiums. Football has played an important roll in shaping the sporting life of the city: in 1900, the German Football Association DFB was established in Leipzig. The local sports club VfB Leipzig was the first club to become German football champion. In 1956, the Leipzig stadium, then called „Zentralstadion“ was Germany’s largest football stadium with a capacity of 100,000 people. The “Egidius-Braun“ sports hall, where the KOMM MIT Indoor Trophy will be held, is equipped with first class man-made grass-like pitches. But the city has more to offer than football. Just have stroll through the old part of Leipzig, enjoy the fascinating architecture and the great shopping facilities, or have a break and relax in one of the numerous bars and restaurants, e.g. in the famous “Auerbachs Keller” tavern – just like Goethe did 200 more than years ago… We also recommend a day at the “Sachsen- Therme” spa & wellness resort or a visit to the legendary stadium, now called “Red Bull Arena”.

This tournament is organized by the football federations of Saxony and Leipzig and KOMM MIT under the patronage of the Lord Mayor of Leipzig.
